How to Trust God in Hard Times – 5 Biblical Truths to Hold Onto

How to Trust God in Hard Times: 5 Biblical Truths to Hold Onto

Have you ever felt like everything was falling apart… and God wasn’t saying a word?

Yeah, I’ve been there too. Maybe you’re in that place right now, trying to pray through the tears, asking God why, and wondering if He even hears you. I know that feeling. I’ve lived it.

And if that’s where you are today, I want to gently remind you: God is still with you, even in this.

Here are five truths I’ve held onto when life got messy, when trusting God felt hard but I knew I couldn’t give up.

1. God Is Still in Control, Even When You’re Not

When everything starts spinning out of control, it’s easy to think maybe God isn’t paying attention. But that’s just not true.

“The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.” – Psalm 103:19

He hasn’t stepped off His throne. You might not feel it right now, but He’s still in charge, even when your life feels upside down. Sometimes, I’ve had to whisper, “God, I don’t get this, but I know You’ve got me.”

2. God Keeps His Promises, Even When You’re Tired of Waiting

Let’s be honest waiting on God can feel like the hardest part of all. You pray, you trust, you wait… and sometimes it feels like nothing changes.

But His promises? They’re still true. Still for you. Still good.

  • “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
  • “I know the plans I have for you…” Jeremiah 29:11

I’ve clung to those verses during nights I cried myself to sleep. God may be silent, but He’s not gone. He’s still working behind the scenes, in ways you can’t see yet.

3. He’s Closer Than You Feel

Have you ever just sat in your room, totally worn out, and whispered, “God, are You even here?” I have.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

You don’t have to have it all together. If your heart’s breaking, you’re exactly the kind of person God draws near to. Don’t fake it. Bring Him the mess, He already sees it anyway.

4. Your Faith Is Being Refined, Not Rejected

I used to think trials meant I was being punished. Now I see them differently as fire that refines, not destroys.

“These trials will show that your faith is genuine… tested as fire tests and purifies gold.” 1 Peter 1:7

You’re not being crushed, you’re being shaped. The fire isn’t forever. But the faith you’ll come out with on the other side? That lasts.

5. God Sees the End ,Even When You Can’t See Past Today

I get it. Right now, all you see is broken pieces. But God sees the finished story.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

It’s okay to not understand. Trust doesn’t mean having all the answers it means choosing to believe God does, even when your heart is heavy.

Here’s a Simple Prayer You Can Pray Right Now

“Lord, I don’t understand any of this… but I choose to trust You. Help me believe you’re still here. Strengthen me when I feel weak. Hold me when I feel alone. Amen.”

You’re Not Alone Even If It Feels That Way

I don’t know your story. I don’t know what you’re facing today. But I do know this:

God’s silence isn’t His absence. And your tears are not wasted.

If you feel like giving up, please don’t. The same God who was faithful before He hasn’t changed. And He’s not finished with you yet.
